The activities of the scientific sessions of the First International Environment Conference at Sohag University, organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, were concluded, under the title “Universities and the Challenges of Sustainability and Climate Change in the New Republic”, under the auspices of Prof Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Major General Tariq Al-Fiqi, Governor of the Region, in the sub-rooms of the International Conference Center at the new university headquarters, in the presence of Prof. Khaled Omran, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof Sabah Saber, General Rapporteur of the Conference, Prof. Hamdi Hassanein, Secretary General of the University, and Prof Ahmed Suleiman, Vice President for University Affairs Graduate studies and previous research, and a group of staff members and their assistants
Prof. Mostafa Abdel Khalek said that at the conclusion of the opening session, Prof. Ahmed Kamel Hegazy, Professor of Applied Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, delivered a lecture on green entrepreneurship and sustainable development, followed by the launch of the scientific sessions of the conference, adding that the first scientific session was divided into two groups. (A and B), where the group (A) was headed by Prof. Ahmed Aziz, the former president of the university
and Prof. Muhammad Tawfiq, Dean of the faculty of Arts, Prof. Khalaf Hammam, Dean of the faculty of Agriculture, and Prof. Bahij Al-Deeb, Emeritus Professor Emeritus at the faculty of Science, and it included 7 research papers, where the researchers discussed a number of topics, including the use of waste in the manufacture of cold asphalt mixtures, Climate changes and their impact on agricultural pests, and also the role of renewable energy in achieving sustainable development, thorny nutritional issues, and the impact of climate change and population increase on food security.
